02 Feb Smoken S BBQ Ribbon-Cutting article – The Anna-Melissa Tribune
On Saturday, Jan. 6, the Greater Anna Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony, as employees and guests met at the new Smoken S BBQ site to welcome the business to the area.
A BBQ wagon located on Highway 121 in Melissa was the brain child of owner Kent Smith. Smith said even though the business has not been open for long, residents know the quality of the food.
“We have only been open at this location for seven weeks,” Smith said. “Yet, we have been open for two years, doing special events and catering.”
Smith said he joined the chamber for two reasons. “I joined to support the town,” Smith said. “I also joined for advertising — the chamber helps get the word out.”
Executive Director of the Greater Anna Chamber of Commerce Kevin Hall said the ribbon cutting ceremony went off without a hitch. “It was a beautiful day for us to be outside and celebrate the Smoken S BBQ membership,” Hall said. They offer catering, as well as, have a BBQ stand in Melissa which is open every Saturday from 11 a.m. until they sell out of food.”
Hall said the food is worth the drive. “The BBQ is grilled fresh, which makes for a tasty lunch. Some may remember Smoken S BBQ for having their food trailer out at events such as Anna Glowfest and the 4th of July Fireworks Show.”
Not only were guests able to witness the ribbon cutting — and enjoy the BBQ — they were also able to enjoy some entertainment. “At the end of the ceremony an Anna High School student showed off his magic and card tricks,” Hall said.
Hall said he is pleased to welcome Smoken S BBQ to the Greater Anna Chamber of Commerce. “We are honored to have Smoken S BBQ as members and look forward to their success,” he said.
